there has been a FAO project for the introduction and development of olive
cultivation in China. I participated to it
in 1986 as a consultant. Groves had been planted in Hubei, Yunnan, Shansi,
Hebei, but the best conditions in my view
were those of certain locations of Szechuan (Santai County). There I tasted very
high quality olive oil. The project
was under the supervision of the Ministry of Forestry (!). Unfortunately I don't
have any more recent news, and myself
I would be glad to know whether those trees are still there, and if oil is still
produced.
