Frantoio Verses Correggiolo
<table border=0 cellpadding=2 cellspacing="0"><tr><td>
<pre>As a new grower just starting up, and in the process of deciding on
which cultivars to plant, I have been reading with interest many of
the previous questions and answers provided in this forum on the
various oil producing cultivars available with in Australia.
I have spoken to numerous growers and suppliers about varieties and
indicated I was interested in planting both Frantoio and Correggiola.
To date no one has indicated they are one in the same, however, most
of what I have read in recent weeks seems to indicate they are in
fact the same CV and even the recent DNA article in OA indicates
there was little or no difference between the two as tested by Olives
Australia.
Can anyone clarify this issue for me and tell me if they really are
the same variety. ??
If they are in fact the same CV, why are suppliers marketing them
under two different names with out at least cross referencing the
names on their labels and stop the myth.
I also found the recent article #1741 by Mohamed El-Kholy was very
interesting and I would like to find out more about oil stability
rankings.
Is there a consolidated list of CV's which indicates oil stability of
each variety.? Can anyone tell and where can I locate it. ??
If I took oil stability as the key indicator what is the lowest value
I should consider for the production of premium quality oils.
P.S Thanks to Peter Caird for passing on this web site.
