large of an area do you need to protect?
As you are finding out deer are tenacious and can ruin crops in a short
amount of time. Chances are if they are coming close to the city they don't
have much fear of humans, which is a big problem. There are some chemical
sprays out that are supposed to ward them off. Check with your local
agricultural agency or fish and game depts. I have also heard of using
human hair and urine. Fencing is about the best but you say its not
feasible in your situation. my relatives just wound up getting permits from
game warden and thinning the buggers out. I'll keep my ears open and post
anything I might come across.
