<pre>Dear Friends:

Another piece of interesting news this time coming from the Daily "El Mundo"
in Spain.

The way I read the news they are two interesting parts. One is that of the
aid program and amount. The second is that part of the aid is for the first
time directed to improving olive oil quality for our Spanish producers.

I hope you enjoy this.

Best regards,

EL MUNDO (SPAIN): RECORD AID FOR SPANISH OLIVE OIL (AYUDA RECORD PARA EL
OLIVAR)

The EU Olive Oil Management Committee has set at Pta189 per kilo the aid
which Spanish farmers will receive the 1998/99 season, when production
totalled 899,991 tons. The sector will receive a record Pta170.335bn in aid.

Under the previous system, according to official sources, farmers would have
received Pta29bn less, with aid per kilo calculated at Pta161.87. Of the aid
figure set, 1.4 per cent will be used to finance a quality improvement
programme, with farmers receiving Pta186 per kilo net.
