Have just joined the list and am delighted to be receiving all the posts. I
have a few questions. I am working with some students at the Fuqua School of
Business (I am an alumna) who are writing a case study on olive oil. I do
this as part of a volunteer commitment to the school. I do not know a lot
about olive oil (except as a rabid consumer). I am learning more that I'd
ever imagined from your list.

Who are the largest buyers of olive oil (domestic and imported) in the USA?
I understand that the marketplace is divided fairly evenly between retail
(bottled) sales and bulk imports (shipping containers). Also, where can I
get import information to the USA so I can understand market shares of
exporters to the USA.

Second, I understand that the producer supports in the EU will be ending in
a few years or so. What effect do these price supports have on the world
price of olive oil at present and how will an end to these support affect
the market? I also read that there are some people in Spain who are
starting up a futures exchange for olive oil. What effect do you think this
will have.

Should I post this to the list? If so, how do I do that. Sorry for the
technical questions. I am a new lurker.
