¥ What Size?
¥ What type?
If you are after a real press with mats then you will need to advertise
in Italian Newspapers. In the old system - wheels were used to crush the
olives (now a hammer mill is used) - then the paste was placed on grass
mats(Now plastic or stainless steel Mats are used). In Western Australia
there are a few old presses around but because of the tourist aspects of
olive, even if one has a Tonnes! plant - it is a talking piece to have a
restored press on display.
When I was in Crete recently I dropped in to a small village looking for
a cup of coffee, some bread and cheese. There were no shops but one lady
had turned her living room into a small eatery. As there were many olive
trees in the area I asked about the mill. She directed me to a one
Tonne/hour decanter operation. After some hurried shouts and yells I was
ushered up some narrow streets to the old mill, which was now the home
of a retired general. The hospitality was great - he was delighted to
have a visitor and there in the living room was a restored set of steel
crushing wheels and screw press. What a discovery.
