<pre>Liane,
A friend of mine who has Barnea in the Souhertn Highlands region had the
same white spots ( a bit like a drop of ink on a blotter) and had it
identified as a harmless thrip. It was more prevalent in dry conditions such
as we are now experiencing and is more common on white flowers. In this case
they had planted clover beneath the olives and were letting it go to seed
and hence had a lot of white clover flowers in close proximity to the olive
leaves. The thrip seems to leave of its own accord and does no lasting
damage. We are north of the Southern Highlands and also have seen the odd
leaf with it and have basically ignored the problem as we have more pressing
problems with olive lace bug and peacock spot.
Regards
David Wilson
