There are 2 models. It sounds like you used the bigger one which is intended
for use on trees >10 years old. We successfully use them on 55 year old trees
over here. I agree about the energy transfer to the operator; indeed the
accompanying literature advises changing operators frequently.
The smaller model does not have that problem however as a different mechanism is
involved. It was designed specifically for trees<10 years. Pruning of your
trees, especially the "skirt" branches, avoids the problem you mention of the
"gentle swaying of the fruit". The junior model was also used very effectively
on Manzanillo as well although no comparative trials were done as the machine
came out too late in the season.
