They didn't always agree with one another but they
respected each other's opinion. What's more their
writing in newspaper and magazine columns was both
supportive of the industry as a whole and
significantly for Evans, Halliday et al, they were
paid for their regular media contributions as well as
being frequently sought out to comment/ judge on wine
events, releases, shows and developments.The
opportunity is there for those who participate on this
site to submit olive related articles to the
electronic and print media just as Evans, Halliday et
al have done. Food and wine related sections in
newspapers and magazines would be a good place to
start. In time olive contributors, correspondents and
commentators will emerge and be recognised and sought
after just as has happened with wine, cheese,
restaurant reviews etc. There's plenty of interest and
hope out there...its just a matter of tapping into it
and articulating what is going on in your own
idiosyncratic style. It doesn't have to be formula
journalism. Wine and food writing is often at its best
when it is unconventional, yet recognisable, as well
informed and considered.My perspective, for what it's
worth, derives from my past experience as a
restaurateur and somellier and currently as a social
anthropologist, olive grower and olive oil producer.

The opportunity is there for those who believe they
may have the time and resources to take it. Symbolic
capital, ie public recognition and respect, accrues
from persistent, consistent and colourful endeavour!
