RE: Cultivar question

<pre>Don,
I have had exactly the same experience with grafted trees from Olives
Australia [supposedly Sevillanos], planted 1998.
Last year I queried the accuracy of the variety, on a posting with this
group, but no one indicated they had a similar experience.
Mike Wilson described some characteristics of the true Sevillano and as
there were some common aspects I put the differences down to the drought,
the first fruiting and my management of an irrigation regime. It is a
bitter/sweet comfort to find someone else has found a similar situation.
My fruit is about the size of Frantoio and slightly purple in colour when
ripe, matures later than others who have [true] Sevillanos, with the tree
foliage rather dense and dark in colour.
I have no idea what the variety is but would like to know. I am intending
to press the small amount of fruit separately to see what the yield and oil
taste is like.
If anyone has further information about this situation I would value your
input.

Subject: [OliveOil] Cultivar question

My 250 Sevillano [planted 1998] have finally fruited. Supplied by Olives
Australia, I find that 50% of trees are some other variety, small, later
ripening fruit just to make things worse! I presume other people have had
this experience and if so, what did you do? The leaf is somewhat similar to
the Sevillano and not like any other varieties I have planted .
