Re: Professor Shimon Lavee at Olive Business 2001

<pre>Professor Shimon Lavee was an early visitor to the fledgling Australian
Olive Industry. I can remember sitting with him in a car travelling to
New Norcia (The Cultural and Spiritual Heart of the Olive in Western
Australia) discussing the quality of Barnea var Olive Oil. He too has
participated in workshops and seminars in Perth and is always welcomed
as one of us.

Here in Western Australia Italians the pioneers (alphabetical order) of
the Modern Olive Industry are.

¥ Bazzani Family - Manjimup
¥ Iopalo Family Wanneroo
¥ Vescio Family - Chidlow

Of course others may wish to add names to the list.

The University and New Norcia have already presented 4 major cultural
and Scientific Symposia on olives at the historical Monastery Site. We
have also presented three International Olive Schools. Presenters have
included - Pr Apostolos Kiritsakis (Greece), Dr Louise Ferguson
(California) Pr Jean-Baptiste Lesourd (France), Dr Juan Tous (Spain), Dr
Maurizio Lambardi (Italy), Dr Carlo Costa (South Africa) and Michael
Ponder (New Zealand).

New Norcia 2001

This year 2001 we are conducting our 5th Symposium on July 21 2001- The
Olive, Wine and bread in July - The day event will have talks - hands on
activities - New Norcia Bread, Wine and olive oil.

Table Olives 2001

To gain real expertise on table olives - we are again offering our
Annual Table Olives Getting Started Workshop on Sunday 27 May 2001. Our
olive eventis held annually and have attracted many interstate and
international participants. Spend a week end or longer in Perth - Take
in the Mediterranean climate, cuisine and an olive experience. Leave
time to go to Fremantle, the cappiccino strip, the fisherman's harbour -
home of the Americas Cup.

Other events coming up for 2001 in WA

¥ UWA Olive Tasters School No 2
¥ Olives as a Weed Workshop
¥ Making Quality Olive Oil
¥ Workshops on the Australian Table Olive Production Manual¿

Hope to see you in Western Australia soon
