<pre>Professor Shimon Lavee was an early visitor to the fledgling Australian Olive Industry. I can remember sitting with him in a car travelling to New Norcia (The Cultural and Spiritual Heart of the Olive in Western Australia) discussing the quality of Barnea var Olive Oil. He too has participated in workshops and seminars in Perth and is always welcomed as one of us. Here in Western Australia Italians the pioneers (alphabetical order) of the Modern Olive Industry are. ¥ Bazzani Family - Manjimup ¥ Iopalo Family Wanneroo ¥ Vescio Family - Chidlow Of course others may wish to add names to the list. The University and New Norcia have already presented 4 major cultural and Scientific Symposia on olives at the historical Monastery Site. We have also presented three International Olive Schools. Presenters have included - Pr Apostolos Kiritsakis (Greece), Dr Louise Ferguson (California) Pr Jean-Baptiste Lesourd (France), Dr Juan Tous (Spain), Dr Maurizio Lambardi (Italy), Dr Carlo Costa (South Africa) and Michael Ponder (New Zealand). New Norcia 2001 This year 2001 we are conducting our 5th Symposium on July 21 2001- The Olive, Wine and bread in July - The day event will have talks - hands on activities - New Norcia Bread, Wine and olive oil. Table Olives 2001 To gain real expertise on table olives - we are again offering our Annual Table Olives Getting Started Workshop on Sunday 27 May 2001. Our olive eventis held annually and have attracted many interstate and international participants. Spend a week end or longer in Perth - Take in the Mediterranean climate, cuisine and an olive experience. Leave time to go to Fremantle, the cappiccino strip, the fisherman's harbour - home of the Americas Cup.
