We are food brokers from Spain.We read several opinions abt what consumers
think, and we would like to offer you our experience in two very short time ago
cases:

1.- UK Possible customer wanted large qty of olive oil for supermarkets, but
when offering virgen extra, we were suggested to offer orujo because the price
and because the "UK housewives didn't care to disguise between extra vigen and
orujo" just "if the olive price is too high they will forget the fashion"

That is incredible. It is supposing that the housewives don't know abt
differences and only worried abt price, (because olive oil is a fashion?) which
I think is basically untrue, but this is what is transmitted to the exporter.

2.- US. Again large imported wanted big qty of extra virgen, but the price they
said the "Italian extra virgin"olive oil was selling on the supermarket was
cheaper than the producers price in Spain !!. (which is the largest producer on
the world). Never mind if the label put "Italian extra virgin olive oil" this
couldn't be Italian and nor extra virgen.

In both cases we are talking abt importers which still are working and which are
been working for lot of years.

In our opinion, this things happens sometime in all the products, but here could
be due to this is a market which is developing very fast, and people has not
deep knowledge abt the product yet. More information is needed and more clear
abt what is important at time to choose the product on the supermarket.
