Press Release: Stellar 2005 Olive Harvest For B.R. Cohn Olive Oil Co.
Stellar 2005 Olive Harvest For B.R. Cohn Olive Oil Co.
Glen Ellen | CA Glen Ellen, CA (December 7, 2005)—B. R. Cohn Olive Oil Company, one of the first olive growers to begin this year’s harvest, successfully completed picking the olives from their Olive Hill Estate Picholine trees. Since its founding in 1990, the B.R. Cohn Olive Oil Company has greatly contributed to the emergence of California olive oil as a global competitor. The company was responsible for producing one of the first olive oils in Sonoma County in nearly a century. The Sonoma Estate Picholine Extra Virgin Olive Oil comes from the one hundred and forty year old trees and has won many national and international awards for excellence. Because the tiny Picholine olives produce an extremely limited amount of oil, the Sonoma Estate Extra Virgin olive oil is only available through the tasting room of the B.R. Cohn Winery. In addition to the Sonoma Estate Olive Oil, B.R. Cohn Olive Oil Company also offers a full line of extra virgin olive oils and handcrafted wine vinegars available at the winery as well as select gourmet food stores nationally. B.R. Olive Oil Company owner, Bruce Cohn explains, “The unique micro-climate we have that makes the B.R. Cohn Estate Cabernet so sought after also creates optimal growing conditions for our olives. All early indicators point to not only a bountiful harvest, but a crop of extraordinary high quality.” The tiny olives were immediately rushed to a local press where an imported Rapanelli olive mill gently sliced them into a paste using a blade system. This state-of-the-art method creates no heat, resulting in fragrant and fuller-flavored oil. The paste was moved into a mixing chamber, and then sent to a rotating decanter where the precious oil was removed. The final stage was the centrifugal separator to extract the natural olive particles that cause oil to turn bitter. Although it is ready for consumption, the olive oil requires storage in stainless steel tanks for a natural racking process to occur. This year’s harvest produced 300 gallons of olive oil and will be available in the winery tasting room January, 2006. The retail price is $65.00. The B.R.Cohn Winery is located at 15000 Sonoma Highway 12 in Glen Ellen and is open daily from 10 – 5pm. A vineyard picnic and tour is now available. The tour includes a delicious wine country box lunch, a personalized vineyard tour and wine tasting experience. This is a fabulous way to enjoy the serene beauty of the Olive Hill Estate in the heart of Sonoma Valley. The cost is $25.00 per person. Arrangements can be made by calling the winery. Founded in 1984 by Bruce Cohn, the estate winery is known for its critically acclaimed, world-class, ultra-premium cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, merlot, pinot noir and award winning gourmet estate olive oils and vinegars.
