Oroville Family of Gold [Medals]</SPAN>

Summary:
Local innovation-driven olive oil grower/processor receives a clean sweep of Gold Medal honors at the 2005 International Olive Oil Tasting Competition held in conjunction with the LA County Fair Wine Competition.

Full Story:
California Olive Ranch received gold medal recognition for each of their four extra virgin olive oils: Arbequina, Arbosana, Koroneiki, and Estate Reserve Blend. In addition to the gold medal honors, the Arbosana and Estate Reserve Blend also took Best of Class awards.

This is the second year in a row the Estate Reserve Blend earned the Best of Class honor. The LA Fair's International Olive Oil competition is considered the largest competition in the world. In addition to having oils submitted from around the world, the fair ensures the judging panel has representatives from all the major producing countries.

California Olive Ranch [COR] olive oil comes from three olive trees relatively new to California agriculture and American consumers. Arbosana and Arbequina olives are native to the Barcelona region of Spain. Koroneiki olives are most commonly associated with Greece . All three produce their best oil when harvested early while still green. It is at the early stage of development when these olives have their freshest taste and the highest level of anti-oxidants for a balanced peppery finish. People who try COR extra virgin oil for the first time often comment, “I never knew olive oil could taste like this, It tastes like liquid olives!”

COR is the first American olive oil grower/producer to use the newly developed Super High Density planting system for olives. By planting olive trees 675 per acre and training them to grow on a trellis similar to grapes, allows COR to harvest the olives mechanically. This method of harvesting rushes up to 10 tons of olives from the trees to the mill every hour. The speed to crush produces an extra virgin olive oil with remarkable fresh fruit tastes which perfectly compliments California produce, fresh cooked pastas, and is a finish dressing for all meats and fish.

The high density planting reduces land costs and the mechanical harvesting dramatically reduces harvesting costs. The cost savings are passed along to consumers allowing them to enjoy world class gold medal extra virgin olive oil at “use every day” prices. California Olive Ranch Olive Oils are available from grocery and specialty food retailers throughout Northern California and by mail order from their web site: www.CaliforniaOliveRanch.com . COR is also a proud member of the California Olive Oil Council [COOC] that promotes consumer protection industry standards and independent certification of extra virgin olive oils.

Public tours:
On Friday mornings (9:30 to 11:30) AM during the spring and summer months COR offers the public a quick look at their mill [largest olive oil mill in North America] and answers questions about the Super High Density farming system. Sunny Friday mornings only, COR is located at the southern end of Lone Tree Road, Oroville, CA. Best to call ahead to ensure someone is in the office when you arrive [530] 846-8000.
