new member on the list

<pre>Hi every body,
I'm a new member on this list. I wouls like to present myself.
I'm Mohamed Ali ELLOUMI, manager of a start up Internet specialized on
webpromotion situated in Tunisia
I have many olive trees and a traditionnaly olive oil 'manufacturer'
situated in the north west of tunisia in a little bled called "Teboursouk"
near a historical place called Dogga.
I would like to share my informations and problems on this list.
Informations:
the start litre of olive oil extra virgin is 2.500 DT (2,1 usd); this price
is in the north of tunisia.
In the south of Tunisia (Sfax), the extra virgin olive oil is 2,800 dt (2,33
USD)
People say that if it will not rain, it will not be a good season.

Problems:
I don't know which is the situation (price and quantity) of olive oil in
Europe and USA for this season.

Thanks

<pre>Welcome, Mohamed Ali!

It's funny, but we were all talking about the wide disparity in the quality
of olive oils sold world-wide, particularly in Europe and the U.S. (if you
want to see what was discussed before you joined, go into www.onelist.com
(website where you joined this list), type in your password, then go to your
member profile (which lists which groups you're a member of), and then under
this Olive Oil list, you'll see a file I believe entitled "archives" -- this
will let you see all of the posts and emails to this list from the date of
its inception!!! A great way to learn, and catch up with our
conversations).

Anyway, sometime next week, I'll be posting a list of some retail prices of
olive oils here in the U.S., specifically the Northeast region near New York
City. Maybe it will give you some idea what olive oils (from average or low
quality to alleged "gourmet quality") retail for here. By the way, I'm a
retail consumer myself, and have not yet been at all impressed with any of
the more "expensive" oils sold here! Their packaging and bottles looks
pretty, but that's about it.

What is Tunisian olive oil like? How does it differ from, let's say, Greek
or Italian?

Really? I'm happy with the oils we get here. Either I'm missing out on
something or N.J. isn't getting what we get. We get good oils from Italy,
Spain, Greece, California (probably Australia too but I don't recall seeing
any of that yet). I can say that the oils we get imported here are every bit
as good as the oils I brought back from Italy, which are not imported. I'll
try and round up the brand names of some of my favorite imports.

<pre>Hi, Margie!
Thanks for your email. Yes, please do let me know of any brands that you
like. I've seen liter bottles here for sale averaging about $20 (Italian),
and the one or two times I tried them, I was unimpressed (unless I'm just
impossibly difficult to please -- well, then, that's a different, very sad
dilemma).
Thanks very much,
Anna

<pre>Margaret/Anna

I certainly do hope you see some Australian olive oil over in the states
soon. Perhaps in 2000. Our "Victorian Olive Groves" brand produced about
2.5 tonnes this year and we could not satisfy local demand. However, we
expect a much bigger crush next year and I would live to send some over.

Regards
