We have a fair near us at a town called FABRO. It is really for Tartufo but
all food products are represented and as it is held in mid November many
frantoio use it to launch their new olive oil. The tartufo dog trials are
the greatest comedy show!!

The FABRO tartufo fair is held on a Friday through to Sunday. It is
usually the middle of November depending on how the dates pan out. Fabro is
on the main line from Roma to Firenze - almost exactly half way. There are
trains every two hours in either direction. It is also on the autostrada
and has an exit marked FABRO. Entrance fee is about L6,000. There are about
60 or 70 stalls set up inside a big exhibition hall. About 75% are food
products.
The dog trials are held outside. There are marked areas where
tartufo pieces have been buried and the dogs are timed. Unfortunateley no
one explained the rules to the dogs and they keep jumping over the rope
into another area and are naturally very pleased with themselves when they
find a tartufo and totally confused when their owner drags them off!!
The frantoio we use at Monteleone is not far away and has
installed the new 2.5 phase centrifuge system.
