I have the opportunity to purchase some very good oil from the 99 harvest
at a substantial discount because it's all marked with use by dates of Nov
or Dec of 2000. I'll taste it of course, but assuming proper storage I'm
confident that the oil is still in very good shape.

I just want to know more about what the Italians require.

to my knowing if you produce virgin oil in Italy you must indicate in
the label the names of :
- production area;
- mill;
- bottling farm;
- year of production;
- milling kind.
Somebody indicates expiry date.

In Europe they use the 2 year mark from date of
production for "use by" or "best by" dates.
