US importers told you that italian oil in supermarket was cheaper than
Spanish producer price. German importers told me that Spanish oil was
cheaper than italian, and they did not care about quality and organic
production. Seems to be the way it goes, importers always have somebody with
lower price to make you lower yours. The fact is that it's all a question of
quantity. If you have some 100 kg of good olive oil, even the mill's gross
price is higher than the so called 'extra vergine' in the super market. If
you have some 1000 kg you have to accept what they offer and quality seems
to count little. This teaches that farmers should try not to grow too much,
because more is not always more. And direct marketing is a very important
part in quality production.
