Olive Oil and Table Olive Awards

<pre>The Olive Businesss 2001 Awards for Australian and New Zealand Extra Virgin Olive Oils and Table Olives will be presented at a dinner in Melbourne on 18 May. Classes for extra virgin olive oil include bitter/pungent oils from season 2000, soft/sweet oils from season 2000, early pressed oils from season 2001 and organic oils. Table olive classes include: green; black; flavoured, spiced and dried; and organic. Extra virgin olive oil entries are screened by the Australian Olive Association organoleptic panel to determine extra virgin status and undergo chemical analysis before being judged by a panel of 8 judges made up of leading chefs, retailers and food writers. The panel also judges the table olive classes. Results of the screening, chemical testing and judging are provided on a confidential basis to participants and the winners are announced at the presentation dinner.
