I would argue with you that there is no U.S. informational site for
foreign olive oil. As you are perfectly aware, we have had a free
international directory on our site for the last 3 years. We have
extensive listings on cultivars, pressing information, olive recipes,
culture, health information, etc. Much of the information on your
new "expanded" site seems to be suspiciously similar to what we have
had listed for years, down to the same picture under olive oil art.
We have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars promoting olive oil
internationally on the internet and in other media without any real
benefit as our main business is not imported oil. Much of our
content is original as opposed to your un-attributed content cut and
pasted from other sites.

We are the largest and most active olive oil informational site on the
internet with the highest satisfaction rating from search engines
such as Ask.com

For international listings, please visit
http://www.oliveoilsource.com/associations.htm If you would like to be
included, please email us. The listing is free, as is the individual
web pages for every U.S. producer.

We also have a free sister site for producers wishing to broker bulk
olive oil: http://www.bulkoil.com

John Deane

Re: Re: World Directory Listing.

<table border=0 cellpadding=2 cellspacing="0"><tr><td>
<pre>Dear John:

Thank you for your letter which you submited to me via
e-mail through the Olive Oil eGroup.

I assume that you do not have my e-mail address to
write to me directly and that is why you tried this
indirect way of contacting me. It is surprising
because I am one of your clients since I have paid
your requested fee in order to have my site listed in
your directory.

Frankly, I had not been aware of an international
directory existing in your web site. I am aware of a
United States olive producers and sellers directory
that is part of your very informative site. If I had
been aware of your directory, I would have gladly
given you public credit as I did with Mr. Meigovel who
first gave me this idea. I thanked him publicly in our
egroup at which time I stated my intentions which were
to provide a directory of olive farmers around the
world and at no charge or cost to anyone. A short time
later, Mr. Meigovel was kind enough to respond to me
in our egroup, and apparently he, too, was unaware of
your directory at that time based upon what he wrote
to everyone.

I am very sorry that you are under the wrong
impression that we have "cut and pasted" information
from other sites. I believe that a careful reading of
what we have written will reveal that our words come
directly from our love of good food, my Mediterranean
background about which I have warm feelings and rich
memories and a respect for those who have made these
things possible.

Once again, thank you for your letter and I wish you
the best in your worthy endeavors. Your site is truly
one to be proud of.

Very truly yours,

Constantine

Re: Re: World Directory Listing.

<table border=0 cellpadding=2 cellspacing="0"><tr><td>
<pre>Constantine-
Have just joined the list and am delighted to be receiving all the posts. I
have a few questions. I am working with some students at the Fuqua School of
Business (I am an alumna) who are writing a case study on olive oil. I do
this as part of a volunteer commitment to the school. I do not know a lot
about olive oil (except as a rabid consumer). I am learning more that I'd
ever imagined from your list.

Who are the largest buyers of olive oil (domestic and imported) in the USA?
I understand that the marketplace is divided fairly evenly between retail
(bottled) sales and bulk imports (shipping containers). Also, where can I
get import information to the USA so I can understand market shares of
exporters to the USA.

Second, I understand that the producer supports in the EU will be ending in
a few years or so. What effect do these price supports have on the world
price of olive oil at present and how will an end to these support affect
the market? I also read that there are some people in Spain who are
starting up a futures exchange for olive oil. What effect do you think this
will have.

Should I post this to the list? If so, how do I do that. Sorry for the
technical questions. I am a new lurker.
