Hail damage
<table border=0 cellpadding=2 cellspacing="0"><tr><td>
<pre>Within the last hour Tanja [near Bega on the southeast coast of NSW] has experienced a rare and severe hail storm with hail up to 25mm. in diameter. I have just checked the, once, heavily laden trees to find considerable damage with some 20% fruit on the ground and much of the remaining olives with obvious bruising. The olives at present are slightly larger than pea size, on average, and the bruising has not broken the skin. Would any grower who has suffered a similar fate be able to tell me if the bruised fruit on the tree is likely to recover or can I expect the possibility of fungal problems? Are the table olives also ruined cosmetically? Any advice would be welcome. Alan Watt Tanja olives --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
