<pre>We obviously have conflicting sources. I just looked up the population of
Greece, and it's around 10.5 million.

According to my trusty Olive Oil reference book (Kiritsakis, A.K. 1991: Olive
Oil, American Oil Chemists Society) the consumption of olive oil in Greece
1978-1983 average per year was 197,800 metric tonnes. This works out at an
average of just under 20 Kg per man, woman and child. Given that the
population in those years was probably slightly less than my figure, and that
babies probably don't consume that much, I'd suggest the average per adult is
over 20 Kg per year.

Unless of course the Greek eating habits have changed substantially in 20
years. For their sakes, I hope not.

Regards,

Adrian

Unfortunately Adrian the eating habits, in Athens where about half the
population lives, have changed drastically with the arrival of McDonalds,
Wendy's, KFC and many other fast food establishments. You wouldn't believe how
many pizza delivery "papakis" run around our neighborhood every night.
