Does anyone have any idea of the protein content of olive oil, even if only
the minute trace?

Although this is mainly true, we have been able to isolate proteins
from not cloudy oil. However, we still ignore (we have not
investigated it) if this proteins are allergic, since main olive
allergens are pollen proteins that cannot be found in oil.

And not only olive oil, but mainly seed oils.

Protein is generally water soluble/dispersed - if the olive oil has been
allowed to settle and then filtered ie not cloudy - protein content
would be negligible. Cloudy oil (Water Dispersed) would be a better
candidate for higher protein levels.

Why the question - is somebody allergic? There are reports of persons
who develop allergic skin reactions when olive oil is applied to the
skin - some type of sensitivity reaction.

<table border=0 cellpadding=2 cellspacing="0"><tr><td>
<pre>Dear all

Regarding protein in olive oil - I did indicate negligible quantities.

Also olive pollen is an allergen causing mainly allergic rhinitis,
allergic conjunctivitis. However more severe reactions such as asthma
are possible. Recently I visited an olive grower in South Australia who
suffers from olive pollen allergy. During the pollen season she cannot
live on the farm.

Regarding application of oils - there are many compounds present that
can act as sensitisers - and there are several forms of allergic
reactions other than the classic protein induced reaction. This comment
will be picked up by medical readers in the group.
