Cretan olive oil

<pre>I have been following the discussion about Greek (and Cretan) olive oil
with some interest. Cretan extra virgin olive oil is a very good product,
with a long history, and much cheaper than much of the Australian oil.
Despite its quality and cheaper cost, many consumers prefer to buy the more
expensive, and better marketed Australian product.

<pre>THE TRADITIONAL CRETAN DIET

There is much discussion and interest, on an international level, in finding the
ideal diet.
Those who know Crete, even on a brief acquaintance, are aware of the strong
culinary tradition on the island with its own, distinct identity and character.
Crete' s temperate Mediterranean climate is considered to be the mildest and
healthiest in Europe.
Crete is a true "Garden of Eden", that produces the purest olive oil, the
richest honey and the finest wine. The island is renowned for the excellent
health and longevity of its inhabitants.
Cretans have one of the world's lowest incidence of heart disease, a fact that
was demonstrated in the "Seven Countries Study", after 10 years of
survey.Further medical research has shown that the Cretan diet, based on olive
oil is responsible for the longevity and good health of the Cretan population
