[Fwd: Re: Soil Health Card]

<table border=0 cellpadding=2 cellspacing="0"><tr><td>
<pre>At a recent seminar of food and wine tourism operators co-organised by
the NSW Dept State & Regional Development and the Dept Tourism NSW gave
me the chance to converse with many growers/ operators of various
enterprises around the state. One of these was a rep of the "Rainbow
Region Organic Markets" based in Lismore on the North Coast of NSW. He
mentioned a "Soil Health Card" which had been developed by NSW
Agriculture, TAFE and a group of farmers on the North Coast.

The card is developed specifically for the Northern Rivers region, but
must be useful worldwide. It would be a shame if all of the olive
growers of the world had to design their own soil health measurement
processes. I have asked for, and got, permission to present the link to
the card (and some other interesting reading) to the membership of the
list. I hope you appreciate the work that this group has put into the
development of the soil health report card, and that you will put it to
god use.

If you use the card, I'd appreciate it if you would let me know, and
also send a short note to the source thanking them, and offering
encouragement. If you have suggestions for changes (improvements,
hopefully) then please let them know direct.

Cheers

The soil health card is available at
http://www.lis.net.au/~tuckland/

This is the Tuckombil landcare group page. If you go to the GSP - good soil
project - you will find the full card.

We created the card for our region but it is usable elsewhere. The way we
are introducing it is to hold a field day for specific groups and
demonstrate the card. Eg we are going to get a TAFE teacher to run through
the tests at a field day for all the stallholders at the Lismore organic
market. Mostly they will want to use the card in a similar fashion whereas a
vegetable grower and a beef grower will want to use it differently.

We have great expectations for the card but expect some problems.
If you run into any difficulties please let me know.
