Olive Oil Health Article - in Spanish
<table border=0 cellpadding=2 cellspacing="0"><tr><td>
<pre>I received the following article link from the Spanish olive oil list I belong to: http://www.elpais.es/p/d/suplemen/salud/2sal1e.htm One thing I found quite interesting is a quote from one of the directors of the study, that "the anglo-saxon philosophy of approximating the mediterranean diet by reducing fats and obesity at all costs is giving way now that it is being demonstrated that 'what is most important is the quality or type of fat rather than the quantity'". The last paragraph states: -Spain is the largest producer & consumer of olive oil (though greeks are the largest per capita consumers at 20kg per year (8kg more than the Spanish); -Experts advise one's daily diet to contain the equivalent of 3-4 spoonfuls of "unrefined, virgin" olive oil as this is richer in vitamins and antioxidants [than other olive oils, I assume]. Translate the entire article at altavista, if interested. The article mentions a "2000 international conference on the Med. Diet" held in London on the 13-14th of January, so there may very well be some original English sources. -Alonso </pre> </td></tr></table> |
