Oliev Oil from Baja, Mexico

<table border=0 cellpadding=2 cellspacing="0"><tr><td>
<pre>According to the Los Angeles Times, the Baja California area of Mexico is
going to be the new source for Olive Oil import into the US. At least one
olive processing plant will be built in Baja, and plans are being laid to
ship thousands of tons of extra-virgin olive oil annually to the United
States and Canada, said Genaro Lopez, Baja California's agriculture
secretary.

The report indicates that Spanish and Italian conglomerates are investing
through joint ventures with Mexican companies in Baja to gain the first
entry to the market. I think that is a smart move. The labor rates are
cheap in Mexico, the climate is appropriate, and the proximity to the USA is
second to none.

Do we have any members on this list who can shed some light on the
development of the Olive Oil industry in Baja, Mexico?
