Olive Mill Wastewater

<pre>As a relatively new member of the list, please allow me to introduce
myself.....

My name is Glynn Skerratt - and as well as enjoying olive oil for its
own sake, I have been involved in work looking at the treatment of
olive oil mill wastewaters for a number of years now.

We have had a project running in Tunisia for a number of years now -
and this culminated in a group of us (including representatives from
Greece, Turkey, Morocco, Jordan and Portugal) getting together at the
beginning of the year in Tunisia to discuss current work in this area
and plans for the future. Please, if you have any current information
that you can share, then let me know.

Aquatic pollution resulting from processing olives is a big problem in
Europe - and may be a potential one in S.Africa judging by the TV crew
that came round two weeks ago!

Thanks for reading this....I'll keep you posted about developments

Glynn

Olive Mill Wastewater

<pre>Not quite that simple.........the polyphenol conc. and acidity render
an excess of the mill wastewater phytotoxic - hence the pollution
problem associated with its disposal (at least in certain areas of
the Med. basin.)
