Olive Processing

<pre>Greetings All I haven't been writing lately, but I am enjoying the discussions. Keep up the good work folks. I hope our new members could take the time to introduce themselves. I know we have quite a few members joined us lately from Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, and other countries. Folks, we need to hear from you. We shouldn't just let the Australians and NZs dominate the discussions J Should we? Oops, I know I got myself in trouble now. On processing olives, my family have been growing and processing olives (both our own and contract) for generations. The first ~1 Ton/hr continuous extraction mill (Alfa Laval) was introduced in Jordan by my father back in 1972. It was the one and only available continuous mill probably outside of Italy. At that time, the season would stretch for months and the mill ran 24hrs/day forever. A year later, another line was purchased. Then a third one two years after that. Today, there is more than 120 continuos extraction mills (lines) in Jordan. The capacity ranges from 1ton - 5 tons/hr per line. As of 1997/98 Alfa Laval has the majority of the market share with around 60% of the market followed by Perallisi ~25%, then Rapanelli, Fotogarus?(from Greece), Amenduni, and Westvalia. With the high number of mills available, the harvest period has shrunk from several months to 1-2.5 months now. Most mills start the season running 8-15 hours, then run 24hrs for about 30 days followed by a decline. All mills have 2 shifts operations. Management consist of the owner of the mill and his/her family members.
