RE: Mills
Does anyone have any contacts in Europe of people who handle 2nd hand
machines of the 200 - 1000 kg/hr pressers etc? I believe Alfa Laval purchase a large number of their machines back as trade-ins, recondition them and sell them with a reasonable warranty. regards John Bishop Last edited by AdminOliveOil : April 8th, 2006 at 03:33 PM. |

RE: Mills
many thanks - if we don't have time to go to Italy this year will spend
time next year by which time I will have to make a decision on processing plant. I read in the californian olive newsletter that there is a show at Bologna in Italy 13th - 17th November, I think? Apparently most of the processing suppliers exhibit there. Does anyone know if this show is annually or a once only? Also has anyone been to it - does it have most/all of the major suppliers there to help get a better picture? regards John Bishop Last edited by AdminOliveOil : April 8th, 2006 at 03:34 PM. |

Mills
Has anyone thought about second hand?
The mini mills (less than 100 kg/hour) seem to be fine but they are for boutiques producers as the cost of machine minders relative to output is very high. The capital cost is low - at least the Enorossi complete mini frantoio at about $(AUS)9,000 is not big money even if it cost another couple of thousand to freight it to Aus. However total capacity seems to be about 40 to 50 tonne (with a lot of night work) per season. When you shift into professional mills for bigger harvests the capital cost is relatively high for those mills smaller than 1000 kg/hour. There are versions down to 200 kg/hour but you are paying serious money as well as high labour costs. In Italy there are more than 10,000 frantoio and there is a constant change over of plant. It seems to me a good idea for Aussie and NZ producers to consider second hand equipment to fill the gap for say five years between the mini mills until their trees are in full bearing and they can justify something in the 500 to 1000 kg/hour range. Of course there will not be all the wiz bangs of a modern machine but the capital cost will be a small fraction. When the new equipment is purchased the old plant could be a useful back up against breakdown or bumper crops or be sold on again. We discuss the concept in more detail in our book. Cheers Brian Chatterton. Last edited by AdminOliveOil : April 8th, 2006 at 03:35 PM. |

Extraction Equipment
Good evening,
Try Toscana Enologica Mori, they make the Oliomio and probably the Fimo (as it is known here in Australia). I admit to having an Oliomio 150 and am very pleased with it. They make equipment up to much larger capacities. You can contact Giorgio Mori on: tem@tem.it or oliomio@oliomio.it or giorgiomori@tem.it He has the facility to deal with messages in English Yours, Dan |
