Supermarket oil
The extravergine from the supermarket at $AUS7 a litre retail is
not a fraud. In our book we quote some tests from the Italian consumer association which show that the oils pass the acid test - if only just. They are extravergine but have little flavour. At the current rate of exchange Italian growers would be lucky to get $AUS 13 a kg for their oil at the mill. It would have to be something good not just extravergine. Cheers Brian Chatterton.
