I read somewhere that olive trees are indigenous to the southern
Turkey/Lebanon
region. Or maybe that's just where cultivation began. And the National
Geographic
occasionally has an article about this or that ancient ship they've discovered,
and I
remember a Phoenician ship which was full of olive oil amphorae from that
region, so
it used to be a big olive oil exporter. Anyway, I wonder why we don't hear much
about olive oils from that area? (Or maybe it's just me.)

partly, it's just you. the turks are well known as olive oil
producers.

of late however, there has been much negative publicity about their
penchant for adulterating their products with hazelnut oil and
seeling it for rock bottom prices as "olive oil".

cheers,
sodium!
