How can I send oil to USA?

Hi all!
I must send a 12 bottles box to a fellow programmer in USA: after shareware
I make "oil-ware" programs ;-)
How can I avoid problems with FDA and US Customs?
Must I print the "nutrition label" or what?
The producer is a "one-man-company" earning no more than 2500$/yrs (yep!
less than 5.000.000 of Italian Lire) with his oil.
I see somewhere in the 15 Megabyte of pages I download from the FDA site
that some homemade products don't go under FDA strict regulamentations: is
this true?
The oil will be paid with credit card: must I enclose a "pro-forma invoice"?
Just in case there are problem to sell, what about if I send oil as "gift"
for "taggiasca mailing list supporters"?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Bye!

If the oil is not for cmmercial use (resale to the public) and has a value
of less than US$ 200, it can be shipped directly without any additional
labeling.

Thanks Jim!
The problem is the shipping: a $ 200 pack has a $ 217 shipping fare...

I'm wondering where the global market is gone :-)

Marco,

As far as I know, the shipping cost is not considered part of the value for
customs use (but that doesn't make it any cheaper to get here).

I'm using a customs broker that provides shipping at a lower cost than DHL
and the like, but the fees I pay the broker almost make up the difference.
I think the only way to keep the transport cost down is by shipping larger
volumes by sea. This isn't an option for my very small business, but so far
my customers have been willing to pay the higher cost for really good oil.

Of course...

Last year my dad, who lived in Teneriffa, pass away, so I must ship all his
furniture from there to Italy. I lease a 11 ft. container for approx 1000 US$.
Must check with the shipper the fare for a pallet, because we don't need a
whole container: we don't have a production so large!

Bye!
