Olive Care

<table border=0 cellpadding=2 cellspacing="0"><tr><td>
<pre>Victorian Olive Groves wish to announce an important opportunity to growers
in Victoria, Australia.

The Olive Care program run by the Qld DPI is set to have it's inaugural
program in Victoria. This will be organised by Victorian Olive Groves in
conjunction with the Bendigo City Council and it's New Mediterranean policy.
Dates to be finalised but early October is definite. This 1 day course will
be held 2 days only for 20
participants each day. Location Bendigo. Available to growers throughout
Victoria. Inter-state applicants should refer to their local associations.

This program will be a pre-requisite for growers wanting to supply some
major/minor processors in 2002. It is an essential requirement for the
Quality Assurance programs now being set up Australia wide and will be
mandatory for those wishing to export their end product. Similar programs
will be mandatory for domestic sales in future years. Other State
Government Departments, or Federal, may develop similar programs in the
future but none are currently available.

Growers should be aware that forthcoming seasons will see increasing fruit
becoming available for processing and that, by the end of this decade,
Australia will be producing 5 times as much olive oil as it is projected to
consume. Exporting the surplus product is therefore critical to the
industry and a QAP with recall facility will be the industry standard.

Repeat programs may be offered but, at this stage, none are contemplated.
To register your interest phone Debbie on 03 5441 5388 or fax your details
to 03 5441 5399 and an application form will be forwarded to you.
Alternatively email vog@origin.net.au for detail. Applications will be
dealt with on a First Come, First Served basis.

Costs for the day program are set at $319 (GST inc) per person and $50 (GST
inc) for the second person from each business. Maximum 2 people from each
business. Participants are advised that these costs may be partially or
fully offset by Victorian State agencies.

The Approved Supplier Program is based on Codex Alimentarius 1997, Volume
1B, Recommended International Code of Practice General Principles of Food
Hygiene and covers the following areas:-

Product and Handling Specifications
Grove Plan
Olive Food Safety & Quality Hazards
Good Horticultural Practices
Product Identification & Traceability
Training Staff
Documentation of Olive Care
Internal Review & Certification
Assessment Activity
Course Summary

Program notes are included.

Luncheon is provided as are morning and afternoon refreshments.

Participants who successfully complete the course will be awarded a
Certificate of Competency.

Pls do not reply via this forum. Contact should be made via
vog@origin.net.au Please remember there are 40 places only so early booking
is advisable.
