<pre>Dear Roger - We agree with your pollination thoughts from the West
Australian perspective. We think that most of us have "juvenile" trees -
teenagers as it were - and we feel that these trees may act the same as
teenagers: erratic! We feel that once trees get to maturity then they will
become more regular in their habits!Just like us older olive growers!
Best wishes for the New Year to all those associated with the olive
industry, Yours, Mark and Maggie Edmonds

<pre>Bugger is right, we have had the same problem in our grove, hot
dry north winds, burnt pollen, very few fruit on Kalamata.
Throughout the grove there are some cv that have a reasonable
amount of fruit on them but will not need pickers this year.
In our grove every 4th row is Pendolino (40 trees to a row) we
use these as pollinators.
Hopefully next year will be better.

<pre>The B's have it! Fortunately my Australian bees(like Michael Burr's)can't
read Italian or Spanish and do help significently with pollination....They
were all over my grove...oldest trees are 3 years old..and despite the gale
force winds...hail...really big hail stones..the drought... kangaroos
...etc...they are loaded. I am told the drought has affected the bee
population generally...and fruit is way down..I , for one, see the Bee
connection.
My eyes and sight have not been deluded by Cartesian philosophy!
