Olive Growers Workshop 2-7 Feb 2004

<pre>Hello all, Hope you had a good Christmas and New Year, thought this course would be of interest to the Australian group members..all the best, Nadine Olive Growers Workshop Date: 2 -7 February 2004 Venue: Ironbark Centre Time: 8:30am - 5:30pm Morning and Afternoon Tea provided The Professional Education and Development Program at La Trobe University, Bendigo and the International School of Oil Masters are offering a unique opportunity to attend a comprehensive short course program on producing high quality Australian olive oil to an International standard. The Olive Growers Workshop is designed for people working in or who are interested in becoming involved in the Australian Olive Oil Industry. The program aims to increase the quality and production of Australian olive oil and to assist participants in developing the knowledge and expertise to produce olive oil to a standard in line with the International School of Oil Masters specifications. The program will be presented by Mr Mauro Martleossi. The program will be presented by Mr Mauro Martleossi, technical Adviser to the International Olive Oil Industry on Quality Improvement and Commercial Development and a Lecturer with the International School of Oil Masters. Mauro directs the Australian and New Zealand branch of the International School of Oil Masters.Mr Martleossi will be supported by Dr Barbara Alfei, a technical expert in Virgin and Extra Virgin olive oils who is accredited with the Italian Ministry of Agriculture. Other specialist presenters include NSW Agriculture horticulturists, Clarrie Beckingham and Damien Conlan. Mr Beckingham is currently working with the wine and olive industries in Mudgee and surrounding regions, while Mr Conlan has been involved with olive industry research, education and extension in NSW since 1997. His work in recent years has focused on improving knowledge of olive oil quality and the production issues that impact on quality. The program will run over a six-day period and in educational and practical workshops that offer participants the opportunity to examine every facet in the production chain of the olive oil industry – from the horticultural side of preparing the soil, to the olive tree and fruit and finally to the product in its final form, bottled olive oil. Participants will gain experience in all facets of olive growing which will assist in increasing productivity and quality of olive production. NOTE: At the end of each day, participants will have the opportunity to be involved in organoleptic sensory assessment, of Australian and other origins olive oils.
