Variety: Manzanillo
Year planted:1996 (100), 1997 (100) Area (sq. meter): Region:Tamworth NSW Au Why: supposedly a "dual purpose" fruit, and also mid-season ripening. The first 100 were supposed to be Mission, but subsequent DNA profiling showed them to bew the same as the second 100. Mission was supposed to be an early season fruit, also dual purpose. Variety: Hardys Mammoth Year planted:1998 (100) Area (sq. meter): Region:Tamworth NSW Au Why: Late season fruit and good table olive. Have found them to be a slow poroducer - this year is the first time we have had sufficient fruit to even consider a "harvest" (total of 20kg from the 100 trees )Variety: Frantoio Year planted:2002 Area (sq. meter): Region:Tamworth NSW Au Why: Oil fruit, replacement for some of the Manzanillo. Will be progressively substituted for the weaker Manz trees. Seem to do well in this climate. Total area is about .75 hectare

Variety: Frantoio
Year planted: 2001 (600) Area (sq. meter): Region: Braidwood NSW Australia Variety: Corregiola (500) Year planted: 2001 (600) Area (sq. meter): Region: Braidwood NSW Australia We are in a fairly cool area in the Southern Tablelands NSW. I sought advice initially from Olive Australia and planted 36 trial trees a year earlier. There were 9 each of Frantoio, Corregiola, Manzanillo and Nevadillo Blanco. The frantoio and Corregiola grew much better in the first year and now after 6 years are miles ahead. The Manzanillo have had little fruit and the Nevadillos virtually none whilst the others are powering. |

My cultivars
My orchard sits on a terraced, south-facing hillside at about 600m above sea level. the cultivars are small, mountain varieties that are particularly suited to this region. the trees are small and basket formed and hand picked in December. Currently only 150 trees are yielding and another 600 are developing as I am restoring this orchard from 40 years of neglect...reclaiming it from the jungle of weeds. the oil produced is very good, milky, pale green with balanced acidity and a grassy nature.
Variety: Frantolino Year planted: 1960s Area (hectares): about 4 Region: northern Tuscany Variety: Morolino Year planted: 1960s Area (hectares): about 4 Region: northern Tuscany Variety: Pendolino Year planted: 1960s Area (hectares): only 2 trees -- pollinator only Region: northern Tuscany |
