Tuscana Olive trees

<pre>Keen as I am to grow my own olives I have an unusual opportunity to
source some olive trees from the Livorno-Pisa area of Tuscany (Italy).
1. Would any one know of any good nurseries in that locality?
2. As they will be air-freighted - any ideas on how much an individual
olive 'sapling' would weigh?
Cheers

<pre>I live in Paris, France, and I am very keen on French olive oil.

The name for the variety of olives that you call "nicoise" is "cailletier".
You can find it in the very south east of France, near the city of Nice. I
understand that the italian variety called "taggiasca" is very similar to
"cailletier".

<pre>Dear Maz

Try CORIPROL in Pescia Tuscany

Their trees are derived from the Universities of Pisa and Florence and
the CNR for Woody Species Scandicci

Main varieties are certified re variety and sanitary state

Weight will relate to size of bag and amount of potting medium.

Ask for Dr Mauro Marranci - tell him I passed on his name

Fax 0039 583 22 95 21

Freight will depend on country of delivery

<pre>Dear Maz,
How are you? I understand your wish and excitement to obtain trees from
Italy but be prepared for some lenghthy quarantine proceedures when you hit
the Australian Coast. There has been several problems recently in imported
trees from both Italy and Israel into Australia and New Zealand. I don't
wish to put you off but a caution is necessary if we are to remain free of
the worst olive diseases that are prevelant outside Australia. Do you know
exactly what varieties you are getting and if they are available in
Australia.
Best of luck
