This is not a story about the fish that got away but I must say that this
claimed record of yours cannot withstand my experience this year.

Quite by chance Daniel (my offsider) and his friend perchanced upon two
olive trees growing in a paddock. Quite large and laden with fruit.
Perhaps 40' high and the same wide. The bottom fruit was taken off one tree
(275kg) and then the second (220kg). Fruit was stripped to about 12'.
Equal or more amounts of fruit remained on top. It was estimated that the
two trees would have yielded about 400-500kg each. A tonne from two trees!

I duly processed the very small fruit (about 4-6gms) and, unfortunately, the
wxw ratio for oil was about 8%. Fruit black, elongated, strong adhesion to
mother branch/twig, large pit. The oil was quite good though. We will
bring the trees down to a more manageable height this Winter.

Up at Elmore in Victoria there is a stand of around 90 trees that are quite
as large, perhaps larger.
About 120 years old (quite young by European standards) and never tended to.
I have not had time to strip these but they would have had 100kg+ per tree.
A picture of these can be found at
http://www.victorianolivegroves.com/who.htm . The lad in the front is my
son who stands about 1.8m tall and the tops of the trees are not in sight.
