Thanks Antony, yes quite helpful. I have Frantoio (Paragon ?) and Corrigiolla, and wouldn't mind sticking in some Pendolino as they do seem to have a good reputation as pollenators. I think Koroniki would be worth a try too. Has anybody any comments on this combination? Leccino also makes a lot of sense, but are there any available in Australia? Regards, Mike. </pre> </td></tr></table> |

<pre>> Leccino also makes a lot of sense, but are there any available in Australia? Mike I think Marlborough Olives at Lara are trying to stock same or maybe already are. Andrew Burgess (formerly of Olives Australia) is the person to contact. I think he is a lurker on the list but, in any event, he may be contacted m.olive@hccs.com.au Regards </pre> </td></tr></table> |

<pre>Mike, << Leccino also makes a lot of sense, but are there any available in Australia? >> From the responses we've seen here, there are some there. How many remains to be seen. Also, as the market for EVOO gourmet olive oil seems to be increasing in most areas, there seems to be a rush to plant more of these trees. I have a source here for getting more of them, but just barely. Most of the people here selling the variety of trees I mentioned are out of stock, it seems. Best to put in your order for however many trees you want early for next year. Best luck, and if I can help with anything, let me know. I'm not a professional at this, yet, but I'm working on it. <s> Antony Chessor </pre> </td></tr></table> |

Re: olive varieties
Peter,
We have a very small number of Manzanillo that we have imported from Israel. We are currently multipling them up. Andrew Last edited by AdminOliveOil : April 3rd, 2006 at 08:34 PM. |

Re: olive varieties
<table border=0 cellpadding=2 cellspacing="0"><tr><td>
<pre>Regarding supply of specific cultivars. Try Olives Australia For Italian Varieties - Try Olea Nurseries - Manjimup- the send olives interstate so they can tell you who handles them near you For Koroneki - Ty Peter Maroudas in Adelaide Regarding quality - Frantoio, Leccino and Koroneiki produce excellent oils in their respective countries. The fact that the Italian varieties currently get most of the prizes may change as the Australian industry gets more adventurous and better experienced. Also Oles Mission has won some Australian rizes. Two other Greek varieties should also be considered for oil - Volos (Conservolia) and Kalamata. Both can also be used for table olives. In Greece they fetch a higher price for table olive processing. These are a different story to Manzanillo. They are also easy to machine harvest because of their larger size compared to most oil olives. Stan Kailis </pre> </td></tr></table> |
