Solid waste and wastewater from olive oil production

<pre>Dear egroup!

I'm looking for a web-page, book, report or email from you which
discuss the problem connected to environmental issues regarding olive
oil production, i.e. impact on soil and groundwater, viable methods
for treatment of vegetable water, solid waste and so forth.

Are there major differences in national regulations between different
olive oil producing countries on how the environmental issues shall
be preserved?

I'm much obliged

<pre>Regarding Waste from olives.

My impression is that all olive growers appreciate that the olive waste
can be polluting, There are many ways of handling the waste.

¥ Spent Paste - sent to the solvent extractors
¥ Residue - added to composting systems
¥ Fuel - bulk eg Egypt
¥ Water - settling ponds - often taken away by tanker (eg Tuscany)
¥ Mr Rapanelli - Perugia - has a machine to make brickettes
¥ Several research groups have focussed on microorganisms that can grow
in the phenolic environment and hence develop better composting systems.
