Just saw this message. Perhaps you have already taken your trip.
Anyway.. there are no standards regarding soap in the US. As long as you
make no cosmetic or health claims, you can do as you wish. No need to even
list ingredients, nor to list all the ingredients.
If you do make such claims, you have to use formal nomenclature to list
the ingredients. But you can still put in just about anything, including
many skin-damaging and even carcinogenic substances. It is pretty sad. The
cosmetics industry is "self-regulating." Ho, ho, ho.
You do need to list on labeling the name and address of the maker or
distributor, and the weight of the soap in ounces.
If you wish more info. contact me directly, as I am no longer receiving
the daily digest. Just too much to read.

<pre>Hi - I saw this message from you. It's probably from my partner, Linda
Simpson. We are buying soap from an importer that gets the soap from an
olive oil manufacturer near Bodrum, Turkey. We wanted more info on
standards, etc. Linda will be going to Bodrum sometime in May. I will be
going in September to visit the manufacturer. Where are you located? If
you are in Turkey or Greece in September, would love to have coffee with
you. Thanks for your help.

<pre>Hi,
My farm is very near to Bodrum. (About 30 miles). In fact there are very
limited olive grows in Bodrum, most of the olive produced in the Milas
region where is my country. If you come to Bodrum we may be able to have a
meeting with you and your partner and have coffee after having fish in my
house near the sea .
Do you know that from where your importer buys soaps in Bodrum. I will try
to send you something about the standards and also try to send samples via
TNT, DHL or etc. which will be available.
I thinks there will not be any problem in the custom. Also, since we are
produced olive - oil soap 100 % natural, we may talk about packaging later.

Regards
Hasan Kavakli

<pre>FYI - if your partner goes to Bodrum in Turkey, I recommend going to the
Nautical Archaeology Museum at the castle in Bodrum. A number of my
friends have worked there, especially on the oldest known shipwreck ever
excavated (underwater). Some of the cargoes were olives. If you are
interested in this sort of thing.
