Pomace (Residue) Use
<table border=0 cellpadding=2 cellspacing="0"><tr><td>
<pre>Hi Peter, As I mentioned once some time back, fuel, fertilizer and animal feed are also the ways Turks deal with the residue. I think that's common in all the Mid-East and Near-East countries. And as for nutrition, I'm told there is little nutrition but it's filling. You probably know, there're occasionly additives to cattle feed that are not nutritious - some folks have even been know to use sawdust .. :-( Y'all keep smiling, Butch http://www.AV-AT.com http://www.Bsi-Hq.com ********************* > Concerning the use of pomace as fertilizer and animal feed: > > During my ethnographic work in northern Jordan and Palestine/Israel, many > of my contacts mentioned that solid pressing wastes were used for both > applications. > > For animal feed, an experimental agricultural station near Irbid, Jordan, > was exploring the use of olive pressing wastes as an animal (primarily > sheep) feed additive. <pre>Howdy Butch, The ag experimental station in Jordan was investigating using a number of commercial wastes as animal feed, not just olive pressing wastes. They also were using wastes from the tomato paste and chicken processing industries. I know here in the states, some feed is made with processing wastes. Like Native Americans and the buffalo, nothing gets wasted ![]() Peter On Wed, 5 Apr 2000, Butch Owen wrote: > Hi Peter, > > As I mentioned once some time back, fuel, fertilizer and animal feed are > also the ways Turks deal with the residue. Like Native Americans and the buffalo, nothing gets wasted ![]() A note of caution is appropriate: it was waste sheepmeat being used in cattle feed that led to the outbreak of mad cow disease in Britain (and Europe, though they won't admit it....).
