Soap ingedient - grade of olive oil

<table border=0 cellpadding=2 cellspacing="0"><tr><td>
<pre>Hi all from a lurker in Cape Town
I have received contradictory "authoritative" advice as to the best ingredient
for olive oil soap; I therefore ask this esteemed list for advice, with
reference also to the cost of the alternatives. F.Y.I., the relative prices of
grades of oils here in South Africa are approx.
EVOO 100%
Virgin Oil 91%
Pure Olive Oil 70%
Pomace 61%
Remarks on the effects of free fatty acids and the suitability of refined oils
would be appreciated. Does anyone use a blend of, for example Virgin, and Pure,
and if so, can you indicate recommended proportions?
Regards

I will leave it to the actual soap makers to comment upon your questions.
However, I will state that I recieved last week the prototype of my soap
made from Australian EVOO. I believe it to be the only OzEVOO available;
most others being made from imported EVOO or Oz Olive Oil. The soap is
remarkable in it's aroma and feel. Congratulations RedGum

We use the pomace olive oil because it tends to make a harder bar and will
trace quicker than pure virgin olive oil... trace means how quickly the
oils and lye are turning to
glycerin. How much of the wonderful benefits of virgin oil that lasts after
the lye gets done with it is
a controversy. The cost also prohibits alot of soap makers .
If I was going to make a massage oil or a healing ointment , hair treatment
that is oil based then the pure virgin oil would be of benefit because it
is going on and into the skin without any chemical manipulation
Did that help any?
