Something interesting

<pre>Hello, all the members of the list Some days before people talk about the consume olive oil in diferent countries. We explain about Greece, Italy an Spain (the tree great producers and consumers). The fourth countrie in consume is USA (per countries, kg olive oil / country). I have and statistic of the evolution in the last years in USA (kg/person/year): 1982/83 0.13 1983/84 0.15 1984/85 0.15 1985/86 0.17 1986/87 0.21 1987/88 0.26 1988/89 0.27 1989/90 0.30 1990/91 0.35 1991/92 0.37 1992/93 0.42 1993/94 0.43 As you can see is a "good" volume of oil for 300 millions of people. The consume of olive oil in the world is around 1.800.000 tones and is concentrated in the Mediterranean countries (85%) with a consume anual of 400.000 tones in Spain and 600.000 tones in Italy (more than the 50%) The production is every year diferent and in Spain around the 20-30% of olive oil produced is exported to Italy (Italy do not have suficient stock for his country and export), by lorries. Then they export it to other countries (in 0.25-5 liters ) For my friend of England (I think Richard), probably your oil from "Tuscany" is not from this region. This is the great problem of Spain. Wer, now, do not learn about our errors. I think, in my opinion, is a problem of producers and mills, they have to bottled themselves and export it, but the olive oil is a "very rural" sector since today in Spain. <pre>Dear Oscar Thanks you for listing the per capita olive oil consumption in the USA. I have used your data to generate the following trend patterns of annual consumption. As you can see, the scale is going up and it will keep growing. I believe that olive oil consumption in the USA will keep increasing for a great while before it levels off. This is an opportunity for olive oil exporters to tap into this market and to create a brand identity and to establish a market share. There are many ways to tap into the USA market. I will leave the discussion on the topic for a next message or for you the list members to suggest and discuss. In the mean time, if any one would like to share any other statistics for other countries, such as Japan, Australia, or Argentina, please do so. Best regards Sadoun </pre> </td></tr></table> |
