Frank, I will be happy to send you a copy of the tape but I feel that it has dubious value, especially in the area that you have mentioned. The ABC report seemed to dwell on what the olive 'investment' companies were achieving instead of what has already been achieved before. For example, Olives Australia in Queensland has been nurturing an Australian Olive Industry since 1974/1975. The advice provided freely by them enabled many newbies (including me) to at least get some understanding about growing olives. Another topic dwelt on the Barnea olive variety and how Agrolive was dealing with quarantine problems in Australia. No mention was made of the pollination fiasco! For more accurate information on climate perhaps try the RIRDC of Queensland website. Craig Hill and Peter Caird, both on this discussion group might also point you in the right direction. http://www.rirdc.gov.au/pub/olive5yr.htm http://www.rirdc.gov.au/pub/handbook/olive.html The latest count for olives in the ground and trees ordered from nurseries in now over 3,000,000.(source RIRDC of Queensland).
From memory, the Olives Australia web site (easily searched) contains a table comparing climatic conditions across many countries/regions, including Australia, to help help people work out how their area might equate with olive growing regions. It has however been several months since I looked at web site. One of the RIDC reports referred to by Phil does contain a general piece on the Australian climate.

|

From: Frank Scranton fscranton@thgcorp.com Phil, Thanks for the response. I would still like to have a copy of the tape if possible. I did go to the other sites. They are very good. Again, thanks. Let me know how much the tape will cost and I will be more than glad to cover the expense.
