<pre>Dear Friends:

I read the ongoing discussion on the "Fly" and I would like to recommend
that you ask one of the members in Greece to respond on how they deal with
them. If I remember well fly traps are used to catch the female flies which
they make sterile and then male flies cannot...... or is it the other way
around? I forgot. It has been such a long time since I last discussed this
issue.

I hope this suggestion helps.

Bets regards,
Constantine

RE FRUIT FLY(?)
We set sticky traps to try to catch some and sent some larvae to Wagga but all
to no avail, so I can't answer the
question. The best news for me was that I didn't have to catch any more this
year for identification.

To the group:

RE HARVESTING
I have written an article about my development of a picking frame which will be
in the next Olives Aust magazine. If
anyone doesn't receive the magazine (and I can't believe anyone doesn't) send me
your email address and I'll send
the text which is fairly self-explanatory. Please do it off-line to
fordwichfarm.com.au to minimise the traffic
here.

Thank you for the correction. You are right. I was referring to Dacus.

Best regards,

in Italy we use to put 2-3 glue-traps for hectare. Inside is some "feromone"
which attracts the males.
As first flies are captured immediate actions are required in table-olive
orchards; actions in oil-olives orchard are required only
when too many flies are caught. Fortunately we have no Dacus oleae in Umbria !
