<pre>Dear Maggie
Sorry to reply so late. I was in the olive grove; pruning. My hands are sore
and my upper arm muscles are growing in size!!

I have forwarded your question to Chuck. Here is his responds:
"Nothing specific for WA at the moment. OPNEV region has arranged for a
course on 19 October for their members and region."
I will keep you updated on that.

How was your harvest? We had for the first time a shaker here. The first
was not too bad' but very slow. The second one from Peter Birch was much
better, but still needs some mechanical attention. But there is a great
potential for his machine.

Hope to catch up with you soon.

Regards
Rita

RE: Tasting Courses

<table border=0 cellpadding=2 cellspacing="0"><tr><td>
<pre>Dear Rita - I sympathise with your pruning aches ! The pleasure comes from
seeing the trees looking good, doesn't it ? Thanks for passing on my query to
Chuck.
Our harvest was OK, although all of us lost perhaps a third of flowers at
flowering when we had hot strong winds. Mark insists that we produce a soft
mellow, late harvest type oil - he says that more people are in tune with that
flavour at present - so that's what we have. A few of us small growers have to
join together in this region to form a large enough entity for marketing
purposes. I am not in favour of all small growers together - I would just like
a group of like-minded souls ! Hope to see you in Adelaide at the Conference.
Oh - was down in Frankland in the South visiting the Frankland River Olive Grove
- looks good, but the trees are only small ... and also viewing a Verdegiglio
shaker/harvester. It was trialled on some of our large trees when the importers
first got it and they were new to the job, so it was a bit difficult. However,
now they have had 2 mechanics from Italy over and have fine tuned the thing
slightly and it was working fine on small - say l0 foot high trees that weren't
very bushy.I am not sure how it would go on our Gingin huge growth trees !! Time
will tell.Yours, Maggie
