Oils from Umbria.
<table border=0 cellpadding=2 cellspacing="0"><tr><td>
<pre>I don't think too many of the small producers are on line. We know a couple of excellent producers. Sportoletti at Spello produce oil from their groves in the hills above (some on the slopes of Subiaco behind Assisi). In fact we mention in our book the fact they have bought some high altitude groves which were abandoned as uneconomic and have restored them. They can do this as they sell the oil direct throught their winery. There is another at Foligno - but I cannot recall the name they sell under I will have to find out - who have high altitude groves. If you go to their frantoio in the centre of Foligno it is spectacular and the oil is terrific. Another good way of finding the oil you like is to go to some of the fairs that are held about the time of the harvest. You can go from stall to stall tasting the new oil and choose the one you like. Quicker than dashing round the countryside! Cheers Brian Chatterton. </pre> </td></tr></table> |
