Wine & olives

Aaaaaah, well actually, Phil.... What tends to happen is that there is no reference made to where the grapes were grown at all. Some very good wine is made this way (Rosemount would be a notable example) with the fruit grown in premium locations throughout Australia, the fruit either crushed on site or trucked as grapes to the Rosemount winery in the Hunter, made into wine, blended up to produce a first class bottle of plonk, and then sold all round the world at a decent price, as Rosemount Estate Diamond Label range. What you don't get is regional character. What you do get is decent product at the right price and consistency. How does the olive industry approach this? Does the olive oil buying public want a regional, varietal oil, or a consistently good, well priced oil? My gut feeling is for the latter. I would suspect Rosemount make a lot more money out of their Diamond Label varietal range than out of their Hunter Valley Show Reserve range. However, without the awards and attention created by the Show Reserve, how much of the other would they sell? Mike. </pre> </td></tr></table> |

<pre>I think I would agree with you Mike. The olive oil buying public would opt for the latter i.e. consistently, well priced oil of good character. After all we are probably looking at the same market segment aren't we? Phil </pre> </td></tr></table> |
